Remembering Chaudhary Ajit Singh Ji
Invitation to the Launch Ceremony of Indian Council of Agri-Journalists...
Chaudhary Ajit Singh was one of the most dynamic leaders of India, especially worked for farmers and on the economic condition of India. He breathed his last on 6th of May 2021.
Commemorating his First Punya Tithi (Death Anniversary), ReTHINK INDIA INSTITUTE is recognizing the contribution of a host of Farming Families, Private Sector, Civil Society, Researchers, Academia, Journalists, Activists et al who have played a Key Role in nurturing the Equitable Agro-Food Systems across the Globe.
Chaudhary Ajit Singh ji carried forward the stellar political legacy of Chaudhary Charan Singh ji, the 5th Prime Minister of the Republic of India to his last breath. Being one of the early Computer Engineers of the country having an immense global exposure, Chaudhary Sahab had a profound vision for the future anchored in the very agrarian foundations of this nation, something which got amply vindicated in the contemporary Russia-Ukraine Conflict as well as during the vagaries of the COVID19 lockdown.
For Chaudhary Sahab, the underlying purport of the term FDI always remained to be Farmer Dominated India.
When the popular farmers’ protest against the draconian #FarmLaws of 2020 was weakening on the borders of the National Capital in January 2021, Chaudhary Sahab’s one phone call of assurance re-galvanized the same and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had to eventually call the laws back by November of that very year.
Indian Council of Agri-Journalists is also being launched on this very day, amplifying their power of reportage, analysis and policy advocacy.
Despite being one of the most dominant agrarian nations on the planet, we still didn’t have an association of agri-journalists so far. I am extremely happy to know that this Council would be hosted under the aegis of ReTHINK INDIA’s Chaudhry Ajit Singh Center for Futuristic Agriculture.
The World just commemorated the Press Freedom Day a few days back whereby our ranking has further dipped to 150 from 142 last year. However, the success of the historic farmers’ movement of India which went on for over 13 long months can be credited to the substantive reportage & commentaries of the independent agri-journalists across.
At a time when the world is at the cusp of the 4th Industrial Revolution, whereby all technological frontiers are converging giving immense power to the humankind, but presenting the conundrum of inequitable distribution of the fruits of these Technological Advances, giving rise to the 1 percenters syndrome, Chaudhary Sahab’s vision and commitment for Inclusive Agrarian Political Economy of India seems to have ample pointers for lasting peace & inclusive prosperity.
